Triple Tube Bird Feeders
Triple tube bird feeders are a great addition to your home.
Tube feeders are one of the best selling types of bird
feeders because they are simple to use, usually have some
part of the tube visible so you can easily check the level of
bird seed inside, and are easy to open up to clean. In
addition, you can use different sizes of seeds to attract
different bird species, and by hanging them up on a pole you
can often limit access by squirrels.
Triple tube feeders are great because they have many of the
same advantages, but take them even further. First, with
triple tubes, the total volume of bird seed you can load up
at one time is much greater, and so you can go longer before
you have to refill the feeder. And with the larger number of
perches more birds can feed at one time, sometimes resulting
in an impressive display of birds flocking to the feeder.
Because there are three tubes, some feeders will allow you to
use different types of seeds for the different tubes, for
example using large sunflower seed in one, and the small
niger seed in another, which will help in attracting a
greater variety of birds feeding.
As with any bird feeder, squirrels can be a problem to be
dealt with. Many feeders have a "squirrel resistant" top, but
you should be away that many of those are fashioned from
plastic, and a few are even painted to look like copper but
are actually painted plastic. This is a problem if you really
have squirrels because plastic will not keep squirrels out of
a feeder. A better option is those feeders that have a wire
mesh around the feeding port, although that will also act to
keep out some of the larger birds as well.
Popular manufacturers of triple tube bird feeders include
Duncraft, Opus, Perky Pet, and Droll Yankees.
