Copper Bird Feeders
Copper is a great material to use in your bird feeders. Bird
feeders must suffer the outside elements, and too many times
natural wood or painted feeders don't stand up to the weather
and the sun. Copper will tend to last much longer, and will
look great doing it. With brushed copper the finish will keep
the bright new penny look for much longer, but even with
exposed copper the natural patina that forms is attractive
and will keep that natural look for years to come.
Copper has been used for many years on construction ranging
from single family homes to the centuries old churches. It
withstands the test of time, and is sturdier than many other
construction materials. If you have a problem with pests like
squirrels, you will find that they can't destroy these
feeders as easily as wooden feeders.
The patina that forms from copper that has been exposed to
the weather is often referred to as verdigris, and copper
based compounds like brass will also form patina. Many bird
feeders also come in a verdigris variation.
