Birdbath Fountains
A bird bath in your backyard adds a wonderful element of
beauty and serenity. To add the sound and sight of running
water in a fountain takes it to another level. Birds are
naturally attracted to the site and sound of the running
water in a fountain.
Running water also keeps the water cleaner and avoids some of
the problems with mosquitoes breeding in the stagnant water
of the bird bath.
Solar powered
bird baths run off the power of sunlight.
Because of this there are no batteries to install, and
no costly power lines to run. This allows you to install
one in places that would not be possible with a typical
powered fountain.
The power for a solar powered bird bath comes from solar
cells, which are small panels that take solar energy and
convert it to electrical power. This also means there are
some areas that won't work well. Hiding one in the shade of a
tree or under a large awning won't work, and on rainy or
cloudy days they won't work well either. But those are days
you are less likely to be outside anyhow. And, of course,
operation at night is not an option either. Some units come
with a detachable or remote solar panel, so the placement of
the fountain itself is not limited to only sunny areas.
For those areas that freeze in the winter, you need to follow
the manufacturers directions regarding operation in cold
weather. You may need to house it in a warm place like the
garage or basement.
